Lady Sylvia Hermon, MP, is the official patron of the centre.

With great sadness we acknowledge the sudden and intimely death of our secretary, Karen Coyles

Karen Coyles had worked as Network Administrator for the Northern Ireland Network Centre since its formation in 2007, based at the University of Ulster's Coleraine campus. We were saddened to learn that Karen passed away in Sept 2011.
Colleagues described Karen as a well-liked, fun individual who worked with good humour and for whom nothing was too much trouble. In her work for Alzheimer's Research UK she was quietly efficient, always anticipating what needed to be done and working to ensure things ran smoothly.
We would like to express our gratitude for the contribution Karen made to Alzheimer's Research UK's work, and extend our sympathies to Karen's family.

Welcome to the Alzheimer Research UK centre for Northern Ireland

The AR UK has a UK-wide Network of Centres involved in research into Alzheimer's Disease. The Northern Ireland (NI) Centre was established in March 2007, and brings together researchers based in NI.

The NI Alzheimer Research Centre includes researchers with interests in the underlying causes or novel treatments for Alzheimer's disease, as well as experienced research-active clinicians who specialise in Geriatric Medicine and run local Memory Clinics. The range of activities in the NI AR centre includes basic research in experimental models, translational and clinical research, to development of improved care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. The centre is jointly coordinated by Dr. Janet Johnston (Queen's University, Belfast) and Dr. Christian Hölscher (University of Ulster, Coleraine). In May 2009, Lady Sylvia Hermon, MP, kindly agreed to act as the patron of the AR NI centre.
